A septic system has a small number of ways to fail, and most of them are visible once the tank is open. We check the liquid level against the outlet invert — a level above it means water isn't leaving, which points at the drainfield or the outlet line rather than the tank. We look at the baffles, the lid, the risers and the inlet for root intrusion, and on pump systems we test the float and pump cycle. Only then do we tell you what it costs.

We diagnose before quoting, because pumping a system with a failing drainfield only buys a few weeks.
